What does it do?
Rear-facing fixed speed camera. Uses radar to measure vehicle speed and a flash to photograph the rear of vehicles exceeding the limit. One of the oldest and most widely deployed speed cameras in the UK, introduced in the early 1990s.

Measures vehicle speed using Doppler radar. Captures rear-facing photograph including number plate. Painted bright yellow as required by UK law for fixed speed cameras. Some older units use wet film; newer versions are digital.

Where it is used
Fixed poles at known speeding hotspots, often on urban A-roads and near schools. Always rear-facing. Identified by the large yellow box on a pole with a camera window facing away from oncoming traffic.

Widely documented by manufacturer, police forces, and the Home Office. Type-approved under the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.
